You are by far the most kind, friendly and very best hosts we have ever encountered. The way you made us welcome in your lives and on Ubuntu is, to us, unbelievable. I have travelled a lot, and I have never met anyone like you. Thanks for an amazing trip.  Needless to say we miss you a lot . . . so we are planning to sail the Abacos again.  ~ Mikael

Thank you, David and Lori, for a Spring Break to remember! From our morning conversations and learning to raise the sails, to finding a sea turtle and eagle ray while snorkeling, to your fantastic cooking and kind hosting, I had a trip that was more meaningful than I could have hoped for. The end of the week came too soon, but I now have plenty of photos and some new wisdom to take back and share with my friends and family. I wish you safe cruising, and look forward to keeping in touch!  ~ Jacob

Upon leaving for the airport, my first instinct was to turn and run straight back to the boat. Even in less than a week, you two made me feel as if Ubuntu was my home on the sea. Your warmth and hospitality floored me- it takes a uniquely compassionate family to open their home to (eight loud and hungry) strangers.

On a more personal note, I've often felt alone in the way I look at the world. In nineteen years, I have fallen head over heels in love with the Earth, the people who inhabit it, and the way their minds work. Often, my insatiable and varied curiosity is met with derision, or worse, apathy. I'm lucky to have family and friends that love, support, and fuel my passion for discovery, but it's still easy to feel isolated for being so interested in so many things. Meeting the both of you was, in short, terribly comforting. To find strangers who love things as broadly and as deeply as I do gave me a profound sense of belonging onboard Ubuntu, and that is a gift I can't thank you enough for.  ~ Margaret

If I have to go to sea (and I have to go to sea), then I can think of no finer company to have than the crew of Ubuntu, my friends and my shipmates for the rest of this crazy voyage of our lives.  ~ Kert

From the outset it was clear that this voyage of discovery would be amazing. The crew of Kiskeedee and Ubuntu were super organized, professional and so friendly. They took the utmost care of my students and that is worth its weight in gold. Meals aboard ship were just wonderful. The choices made available to students in terms of how to spend each day were well thought out and very engaging. We had so many options each day – explore an island village, swim, snorkel, photograph, learn some basic sailing terms, help out with the ship’s chores or simply visit on the beaches. This was a great program for a group of college students and I would recommend it to anyone.  ~ Chester

An inspirational setting that stirs creativity. Time spent on board Ubuntu in the company of the hosts definitely fed our souls, as well as our stomachs!  ~ Bill http://www.wbthompson-art.com

Thank you for welcoming the Barracuda Patrol in to your home. You are extremely gracious hosts and a wonderful couple. Your knowledge and eagerness to share is to be commended. You have exceeded all of our expectations and made many dreams come true. Thank you again and smooth sailing and full sails for many years to come. Most joyfully...  ~ Thaddeus and the Barracuda Patrol

When we stepped on deck, we were greeted by Captain Milton and his First Mate with hospitality and warmth and with a net full of fresh fruit. We were given a short briefing on what we would be doing and how to stay safe.

For the next 5 days and nights we sailed and motored our way around the Sea of Abaco, stopping at ports to sightsee, anchoring at reefs to snorkel, and mooring near beaches to enjoy the sand and surf.

At the end of our trip we were completely relaxed, well-fed (we made our meals), and completely taken care of by the Captain and First Mate. We swam with dolphins, saw a few sharks, ate great food on-board and at the ports, met very interesting people, and most importantly thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

I personally made a friendship with David that I'll be able to enjoy for the remainder of my life. We shared our experience with the rest of the troop when we got back, and I guarantee that there will be more scouts attending the next High Adventure with Captain Milton.  ~ Neil

We had such a great time aboard Ubuntu! We found her very comfortable both at sea and at anchor, and her shallow draft allowed us to explore wonderful coves and bays. Additionally, we enjoyed beautiful, healthy meals and the best crew in the Carribean! We look forward to another stay with you.  ~ Francis

With extensive sailing and cruising experience and knowledge about boats and boat maintenance, David and Lori have been an inspiration and great help to us. They gave us tons of information and advice about sailing, cruising and boats in general — from which anchor to choose to how to avoid running aground, and from homeschooling the kids to cooking aboard.

We couldn’t appreciate fully the importance of all the useful tips and knowledge until we started sailing. And to this day, some three years later, we still treasure the talks and friendship with the Ubuntu family. Thank you guys, you have no idea how much you have helped us with our humble beginnings aboard a sailboat! Fair winds!  ~ Mira

A bientôt j'espère.  ~ Sabine

My son and I had the pleasure of sailing on Ubuntu as part of a Boy Scout Sea Base crew. I wouldn’t call our trip on Ubuntu a once in a lifetime experience – BECAUSE I WOULD DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN.

Our five days on board in The Abacos were tremendous. A typical day was spent doing a little of everything there is to do when living on a catamaran. Captain David was an excellent host, taking us to great snorkeling spots, dropping us off on a cay to explore on our own, and teaching the basics of sailing and all it entails. We did our best to remember what to do! Highlights: watching the sunrise from the top of the Hope Town lighthouse on Elbow Cay, snorkeling while riding the tidal current at Sandy Cay reef, and fresh lobster dinner at Firefly at sunset.  ~ Rob

I thoroughly enjoyed my time on Ubuntu. It's a vacation experience you won't have anywhere else. It's a refreshing change from the daily routine and "land-life.”   ~ Katy

Our time aboard Ubuntu was memorable – not only were Lori and David exquisite hosts, but the prepared feast was delicious and beautifully presented. I’m not sure how they managed what they did in a ship’s galley, but we certainly spent an unforgettable day aboard, and hope to catch them again when next in the Bahamas.  ~ Louise

Although a crew of teenage boys can be a handful, Captain David taught, coached and counseled them how to live at sea and work properly aboard ship – most importantly, how to work as a team. In addition to his sailing guidance, he made certain the boys (and dads) were comfortable with swimming and snorkeling and found the most awesome places for us to enjoy the undersea world.

I would not hesitate to recommend Captain David, or charter his ship again, knowing that he would be a great role model and mentor to our Scouts on their journey to becoming young men.  ~ Brooke

David and Lori, I made 2 wonderful friends this week – through a glorious 7 days of sailing The Abacos. We couldn’t have had better hosts/captains through some of the most beautiful islands that I will surely come back to. Thank you SO MUCH for your graciousness, your hospitality, your friendship, your sharing of knowledge and your superb culinary skills! I’ll remember this trip forever.  ~ Penny

We flew a group of boy scouts from NY to the Bahamas and sailed for a week in the Abaco Sea onboard Ubuntu. It was one of the most memorable events of our lives and certainly the pinnacle of our scouting experience. We were really happy with the safety and stability of the boat, the creature comforts onboard and the great food. Captain David and First Mate Joel immediately made us feel welcome and their easy-going temperaments created a great vibe.

Each day, we helped operate the boat across the crystal clear water seeking yet another amazing reef full of sea life. David's knowledge of the Abacos was incredible and he shared it freely with us. In the evening, we reviewed charts, planned the next day, and compared underwater photos, listening to him describe all of the species we were seeing. This really enhanced our experience and his spot-on navigation enabled us to maximize our snorkeling time.

The sheer abundance and variety of colors and marine life we saw on the reefs was astounding. The sunsets and views across the water during the day and evening were hauntingly beautiful. I am very much looking forward to bringing my family and more youths to sail onboard Ubuntu again!  ~ Eric
